Pay It Forward

Alawo and his children

In January 2025, we met someone who changed everything.

He came to us for help—but inspired us into action. An accomplished intellectual, a devoted father of four, and someone with a warm, magnetic spirit. When he shared his story, we knew we couldn’t simply prepare documents—we had to do more.

We offered him free immigration document preparation. As we learned more about his life and family, we felt moved to send a care package to his children—filled with small comforts like toys, clothes, and treats to bring a little joy across the miles.

Then something unexpected happened. When we shared his story with a few friends, the response was overwhelming—everyone wanted to help. They wanted to send gifts, show support, and give comfort to families going through similar transitions.
That was the moment the Pay It Forward Program was born.

Alawo and his children

Alawo is a humble yet educated man who left everything behind to come to the U.S.—not for himself, but to build a better future for his wife and their four children still living abroad.

Holding a degree and a promise, he embarked on a journey fueled by hope, perseverance, and unwavering determination to become an asset to his new country.

The Emotional Toll of Separation

Every day, Alawo sacrifices precious moments: first steps, school projects, birthdays—all experienced through delays and digital screens. Research shows that even hopeful separation inflicts emotional trauma—children with separated parents face PTSD symptoms, anxiety, and behavioral struggles; parents endure grief, isolation, and longing.

“I am doing this for my family, but each milestone I miss tugs at my heart.”

A Gift That Means Home

One afternoon, while balancing studies and work in the U.S., Alawo learns that Project Green Cards has sent a surprise to his family. A mysterious box arrives at their home abroad filled with: Toys, Games, Clothing, Candy, and lots of love. The note read:
“From our hearts to yours—your courage bridges any distance.” With love Project Green Cards.

He watches via video call as his children's faces light up and his wife's eyes glisten. For one moment, he is truly there—present in their joy, their smiles, their shared surprise.

True to the The Project Green Cards “PIF” program's spirit, Alawo and his wife nominate another courageous family to achieve legal status. Stay tuned to find out who will be our next nominee.

Turning Gratitude into Action

  1. Celebration and Reconnection
As his family reunites in the U.S., they'll host a heartfelt celebration—balancing joy, reflection, and acknowledgement of their challenges & achievements.
  2. Mentorship Tomorrow
He will personally mentor the newly nominated family—sharing insights, encouragement, and step-by-step guidance through the process.
  3. Nursing is his passion
With this in mind, Alawo looks forward to helping and healing as many people as he possibly can. He hopes to obtain a job in Nursing as soon as possible and feel “normal” again.
